The Mediterranean One Health Center (MED-OHC) for the mpox disease

The establishment of the Mediterranean One Health Innovation Center (MED-OHC), based in Greece, aims to enhance the interdisciplinary approach and collaboration among multiple specialties, such as Medical Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Food Science, and Environmental Science, with the goal of creating a healthier and more sustainable world.
The recent global alert for Mpox (a new strain of monkeypox) issued by the World Health Organization on August 14th highlights, in the most emphatic way, the necessity of One Health as a means of continuous defense for public health and the sustainable balance of the ecosystem.
It is now clear, as recognized by the WHO, that coordinated actions on an international scale and joint strategies are required against health threats that can rapidly spread to every corner of the planet, such as infectious diseases transmitted to livestock with enormous economic impact, with the most recent example being the problem we are experiencing in our country due to sheep and goat plague.
The Mediterranean One Health Innovation Center (MED-OHC) and its entire scientific staff are available to the State whenever needed for any possible assistance and collaboration that may contribute—now or in the future—to our more effective defense against crises that threaten Public Health.
Human health, animal health, and environmental health are interconnected and interdependent. The health of one side affects the health of all.
At the Mediterranean One Health Innovation Center (MED-OHC), we envision, implement, and promote the interdisciplinary approach of One Health as the collaborative strategy for understanding and comprehensively managing Public Health risks and achieving the goals for a sustainable balance of the ecosystem.
