Dr. Victor J. Del Rio Vilas

Dr Victor J. Del Rio Vilas is a senior epidemiologist with the Public Health Rapid Support Team at UK Health Security Agency, UK. Previously, he worked with WHO/WHE at HQ, the Southeast Asia Regional Office in New Delhi, and in Brazil, following a stint in Uzbekistan implementing DTRA’s programmes.
Earlier in his career, he served as a surveillance advisor at the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and began his journey as an epidemiologist at the UK’s Animal & Plant Health Agency in 2002.
Anything before that is a bit of a blur.
He holds a BSc in Veterinary Medicine, an MBA, an MSc in Epidemiology, and a PhD on epidemiology and surveillance. Currently, he is struggling with a certificate in (financial) risk management, which has been an eye-opening experience highlighting how far health security lags in this field.
