
Maria Linou, DVM, MSc, PhD, President of HVMS

Dr. Maria Linou is a graduate of the Veterinary School at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She holds a Master of Science in Leadership, Innovation, and Value-Based Health Policies from the University of West Attica and a PhD from the Medical School of the University of Athens. Since 1995, she has been an active practitioner at her pet clinic in Athens.
For over 15 years, Dr. Linou has been a member of the scientific staff at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute, serving as Head of Veterinary Services and coordinating the Institute’s One Health Committee. She has also served as an alternate national focal point for the Ministry of Health in the WHO on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
Dr. Linou is the President of the Hellenic Veterinary Medical Society (HVMS) and the General Secretary of the Hellenic Scientific Society for One Health. She is an active member of numerous scientific societies both in Greece and internationally, participating in scientific events through publications, presentations, conferences, and postgraduate courses.
She also lectures in the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Programme (IPMS) “Animals: Ethics, Law, Welfare,” organized by the Department of Philosophy of the University of Athens and the Hellenic Pasteur Institute.
Her interests focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases in humans and animals through a One Health approach. Dr. Linou has been actively involved in implementing the One Health concept in Public Health through her scientific research, teaching, and social activities, engaging veterinarians, researchers, health professionals, decision-makers, government officials, and the public.
